Silhouette 3D Paper Hearts (Free Studio File)

A few weeks back I shared on our sister site, Two It Yourself, the labor intensive way to make 3D paper hearts using these old fashioned things called scissors.  Kidding, of course.  But the good news for you, is if you're here it very likely means you have a Silhouette and therefore you have a far easier way to make 3D paper hearts.   (If you somehow landed here, but you don't have a Silhouette, here's the tutorial on cutting 3D hearts without the die cut machine.) This is one of those basic craft projects that, once made, can be used in so many different ways.

I'm going to make this even easier for you by providing the free studio file that I created to make my hearts.  Just download the 3D Hearts Studio file here and open in Silhouette Studio.  From there you can adjust the heart size if you wish.

A few things to remember when cutting these hearts.  Each 3D hearts requires 4 cut hearts all exactly the same size - 2 fronts and 2 backs.  So while the file looks like it will cut a lot of hearts, if left as is, it's really only going to make you three 3D hearts when it's all said and done.

I cut my hearts on two coordinating pieces of scrapbook paper so that all my hearts weren't exactly the same.

Once your hearts are cut it's time to start putting them together.  Using a glue stick take one heart with a hole on the left and another with a hole on the right and glue them together so the holes align (wrong sides together).

Continue for the remaining three.   This picture is a little goofy, but I'm just bending the heart so you can see that both sides of the heart have the printed side of the paper.

Do the same thing with the hearts that only have the slice up from the bottom tip.  Now you should have two sets of hearts - one set that has a hole and a top slice and one set that only has bottom slice.  Take one of each and slide them together.

Tie a ribbon or jute through the hole and you can hang them.  Head over to Two It Yourself to see how I used my 3D hearts for a fun Valentine's Day center piece
